Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the University of Minnesota promoting a community service pledge drive in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.?
Building off of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service, the University of Minnesota Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Pledge Drive offers the University community expanded opportunities to engage with communities in honor of King’s commitment to serving others. How many hours do I need to volunteer?
No minimums, no maximums—pledge the hours you’re able to contribute, as long as your service takes place during the drive.
If I am a staff or faculty member, can I volunteer during work hours?
No. All volunteer hours must be completed outside of work.
What if I’m unable to complete my pledged hours?
It’s OK—this is a completely voluntary drive. But if you’re unable to continue with your volunteer commitment, please make sure to let your partner organization know.
I completed my community service hours—now what do I do?
Thank you for your service! Pledge totals will appear later this spring on this website.
