Professional Development

The University of Minnesota’s Office for Public Engagement (OPE) Engaged Scholar programming offers a variety of professional development opportunities for faculty, staff, postdoctoral associates, and graduate students interested in community-engaged research and teaching. From online training modules to two-day retreats, customized workshops to individualized dossier review services, OPE supports University researchers, instructors, and students in their understanding and practice of authentic and effective University-community engagement.

Engaged Scholar Promotion and Tenure Workshops

This annual three-part workshop identifies challenges that community-engaged scholars face in the promotion and tenure process and presents several strategic and practical approaches to addressing these challenges. Registration info coming soon.

Review Committee on Community-Engaged Scholarship

An initiative of OPE and the University's Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, the Review Committee on Community-Engaged Scholarship offers guidance and voluntary feedback for participating community-engaged faculty during their promotion and tenure (P&T) process.

Engaged Scholar Summer Institute 

A supportive, professional network in which early and mid-career scholars from throughout the University's five-campus system can explore and develop core skills needed for authentic and effective community-engaged scholarship. Offered annually, participants can expect feature presentations, panel discussions, practice sessions, and interactive exercises focused on the basics of building partnerships, making sense of diverse systems of knowledge and experience, and exploring how these knowledge systems are put into practice.

Public Engagement Conference

The University of Minnesota Public Engagement Conference is a day-long university-wide conference showcasing the variety of ways that the University partners with communities, governments, non-profit organizations, and business and industry. The conference features sessions on the latest in the University's community-engaged research, teaching, and outreach efforts.
