The role of public engagement in addressing society's most pressing issues will be the focus of Meeting Society’s Grand Challenges Through Community-Engaged Research, Teaching, and Learning, a University of Minnesota systemwide conference on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Commons Hotel on the University's Minneapolis campus. All University faculty, staff, students and community partners are invited to attend.
The conference will showcase the University's most innovative engagement practices and offer a chance for University faculty, staff, students and community partners to learn about community-engaged research, teaching and outreach initiatives through more than 100 presentations delivered in a variety of formats.
Keynote panelists include:
- Rebecca Ropers-Huilman, Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, University of Minnesota
- Lorilee Sandmann, professor, Department of Lifelong Education, Administration and Policy and former Associate Vice President for Public Service and Outreach, University of Georgia
- Andrew Seligsohn, President, Campus Compact and former Associate Chancellor for Civic Engagement at Rutgers University–Camden.
The day-long conference concludes with a call to action in a special public engagement edition of Thursdays at Four, the Institute of Advanced Study's weekly discussion series that features scholars, artists and practitioners from diverse disciplines.
The March 31 follows the University's annual Public Engagement Leaders Retreat, a professional development event taking place on Wednesday, March 30, which is open to directors and managers of University public engagement programs and initiatives.
