Join publicly-engaged colleagues from across the University of Minnesota system at the sixth annual University of Minnesota Public Engagement Leaders Retreat Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at The Commons Hotel in Minneapolis.
Designed especially for University staff who direct and support of publicly-engaged programs and activities, this year's daylong retreat serves as the pre-conference event for Meeting Society’s Grand Challenges Through Community-Engaged Research, Teaching, and Learning on Thursday, March 31. The conference will provide opportunities for University faculty, staff, students and community partners to learn about the community-engaged research, teaching and outreach initiatives through presentations in a variety of formats; explore strategies for incorporating community engagement in research, teaching and learning; and take part in crafting a call to action for the University’s community-engaged practices.
The afternoon will feature guided field trips to the University's first Metropolitan Engagement Zone Initiative neighborhoods—the communities of North Minneapolis and University District.  An initiative of the Office for Public Engagement, the zones will be facilitated by University and community partners with the goal of building upon and expanding the network of existing University-community relationships.
The retreat is free of charge and there is no registration limit for directors and managers of participating units. A double-occupancy hotel room will be provided to faculty and staff attending from system campuses. Contact Amber Cameron, Office for Public Engagement, at with questions.
