We are pleased to announce the availability of funding through the Office for Public Engagement (OPE) to support departments that wish to develop or strengthen research- or teaching-focused university/community engagement initiatives for faculty and/or students.
Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to five departments to plan, establish, implement, and evaluate strategic initiatives that advance the integration of public engagement into the departments’ research and teaching activities.
Purpose
The purpose of this initiative is to advance the institutionalization of public engagement at the University of Minnesota by furthering the integration of public engagement into the programmatic features of the department. Through this initiative, a set of “engaged departments” will be established. An engaged department is one that:
This award, established in 1999 by President Robert H. Bruininks, honors community outreach and service activities of the University of Minnesota community. The award recognizes members of the University community who have devoted their time and talent to make substantial, enduring contributions to the community and to improving public life and the well-being of society. Their contributions and accomplishments have resulted in long-term and lasting changes for the public good and demonstrate an unusual commitment to the University and the greater community.
